Long time no post. Have been a little inactive on the blog but life has gone on. Travel has been good, Spain with Mum to walk the Camino de Santiago in 2019, Kyoto and Tokyo in 2020(yes I was in Tokyo when Covid-19 was starting to take hold. Obviouly a few years with no travel, back on a plane in 2023 for a trip to Japan, this time Osaka, Kumano Kodo, Kanazawa and back to Tokyo.
Last year was a holiday free zone but I did take two weeks off in March and took a road trip to Inverell for a little fossicking trip. No luck but lots of fun.
March and April saw me finally take steps to launch a small side hustle business, Glenlossie Small Crops. Thought I should put some of my land to use and generate some income. Only small at the moment, but expanding gradually.
Growing up Mum and Dad bought my great grandmothers house and it was named Glenlossie. Just before they in turn sold it the beautiful brass plaque some how went “missing”. It is now waiting for me to patiently polish it and restore the wooden base it sits on.
When I planted along the highway fence I added in a lot of native food, trees, plants and shrubs to provide privacy as well as food. Lots of lillipillies, salt bush, finger limes, white aspen, red back ginger, blueberry ash, native violets myrtles and more.

I also have a small orchard of Pomegranates, apples, cherries, plums, Prunus Mume (fruit for umeshu and umeboshi), elderflowers, pears, nashi, figs, strawberry guava, yuzu, sudachi, chinotto, dessert limes, buddha hand. This winter will see an additional 2 cherry trees, 2 flat peach trees and another 2 Prunus Mume going in.
I now have 12 raised beds for standard herbs, fruit and vegetables. Currently growing are ginger and turmeric, native basil, violas, pansies, linnaria, nasturtiums, marigolds, tomatoes, Jerusalem artichokes, globe artichokes, parsley, sage, thyme, rosemary, tromboncino, saffron, Passionfruit, raspberry, strawberries, celeriac, French breakfast radish, Spanish black radish, romanesco, and sugar loaf cabbage.
Anything I produce is currently available through Gloria at Hunter Valley Farmers Table.
Keep checking for available products here when they are available. Obviously products are only available to buy in the Hunter Valley NSW Australia.
